Finches
Finches thrive in urban settings and, while common, possess a unique beauty. Male house finches, notable for their red hue acquired from their diet, originated from Southern California but were later introduced to the East Coast. They use their vivid color to woo females and even have regional dialects across the U.S. Lesser goldfinches, small and yellow, populate Los Angeles and Southern California, enchanting with their harmonized songs. During courtship, female finches exhibit fledgling behavior to assess the males’ ability to provide, with a dedicated mate offering food in response.
