Woodpeckers

Woodpeckers are fascinating birds, known for their cooperative breeding. Especially acorn woodpeckers, who flash through the skies of Los Angeles, and can be seen moving up and down palm trees of Southern California. They cache thousands of acorns among the trees, and live together, in large family groups, sharing their stored food. I have been fortunate to photograph generations of families who live in the Santa Monica Mountains above the urban skyline.
